The True Name of Bangkok
The name could be the world's longest with one-hundred-fifty-seven leters:
"Krungthepmahanakhonbowornratanakosin
mahintarayudyayamahadilokponoparatanarajthaniburi
romudomrajniwesmahasatarnamornpimarnavatarsatit
sakattiyavisanukamphrasit."
In an attempt to convey the grandeur of the more than two-hundred-year-old capital of the Chakri Dynasty, the official court namer decided to leave off none of its glorious attributes. The name stuck, although today it is abbreviated to simply Krungthep; many Thais don't understand when the name Bangkok is used. Krungthep means: City of Angels—like California's L.A.
